SpiroGen was established in December 2000, based
on work developed by David Thurston, John Hartley, and Philip Howard,
carried out at the Universities of UCL, Nottingham and Portsmouth.
The company is developing a gene targeting platform,
which aims to discover drugs that directly modulate gene transcription.
The company has already developed one product which
is in phase I clinical trial for solid tumours and which has been licensed
to IPsen. It also has two other drugs in preclinical development in the
oncology area.
The company's CEO is Dr Chris Martin. Spirogen
is based in the London School of Pharmacy.
Seed investment included BBSF, CRIL, CRB and Xenva.
